The Dual Duel

Wednesday nights from June 14th to July 28th, 6:30 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.

Learn stage combat this summer! If you've always wanted to learn theatrical swordfighting, this is a perfect introductory class. If you've had some training, take this class to explore the psychology of physical conflict needed to take your fighting characters to deeper levels of commitment and realism.

As the class title suggests, two distinct but interconnected halves must combine to present an effective theatrical duel: the actor must execute precise, powerful, and safe sword technique, and the character must be fully engaged in a fight! This class teaches the fundamentals (and some embellishments) of rapier stage combat while emphasizing that technique cannot survive in isolation and must be linked to character.

The class is now forming, and will be on Wednesday nights and will be held in the 1st floor gymnasium of First Evangelical Free Church at 5255 N. Ashland Ave (corner of Berwyn and Ashland).

The course fee is $90, minus $20 for every person who registers and says YOU recommended them. Please go to http://fightshop.org/fightshop.html to pay via PayPal. If you plan on paying at the door, please send an email to info@fightshop.org to let us know you plan to attend.

Violence Design

Wednesday nights from June 14th to July 28th, 8:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m.

Learn the principles of violence design this summer! For the first time in a decade, R&D Choreography is offering a course that explains in detail our approach to violence design. Violence design does more than create a stage combat sequence that fulfills a script's requirement for a fight. The choices we make as violence designers decide the essence of characters when the stakes are highest and the conflict is at its most primal.

With over 15 years design experience and more than 150 theatrical productions, R&D has developed a systematic, step-by-step process that takes you from the the first contact with the director through opening night. Designers will also have the opportunity to put these techniques in practice in “design challenges” drawn from real theatrical situations.

The class is now forming, and will be on Wednesday nights and will be held in the 1st floor gymnasium of First Evangelical Free Church at 5255 N. Ashland Ave (corner of Berwyn and Ashland).

The course fee is $100. For every first-time R&D student who registers and says YOU recommended them, we'll give you a $20 voucher to discount tuition on this class or any other current or future R&D class. Please go to http://fightshop.org/fightshop.html to pay via PayPal. If you are planning to pay at the door, please send an email to info@fightshop.org to let us know you're planning to attend.

Payment Method: You can pay via check or pay your course fee online via Paypal. To hold your spot, please pay for the class as soon as financially possible. If you need to set up payment installments, please contact us and we'll happily set up a plan for you.
